Company History and Mission

History

Freight Pipeline Company (FPC) is a start-up company founded by Dr. Henry Liu who is an inventor, scientist, engineer, educator, researcher, and now a businessman. The company is co-owned by him and his wife Susie. Dr. Liu started FPC in 2001 upon early retirement from the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) where he was an engineering professor and research center director. While serving as the Director of Capsule Pipeline Research Center at MU, Dr. Liu and his colleagues invented and developed several new technologies in the fields of capsule pipelines, coal log pipeline, and high-pressure compaction of biomass and flyash. FPC was incorporated in the state of Missouri on February 8, 2001. Initially based at Dr. Liu’s home, in 2004 the co-owners bought a 2.5-acre land at a new industrial area of Columbia, and commissioned a 3,000 sq.ft building to house FPC. The Company moved into this new building on July 1, 2005.

Mission

FPC seeks grants and contracts from governmental and private sources to develop and implement (bring to commercial use) innovative new technologies in both the capsule pipeline area for efficient, cost-effective, safe and environmentally-friendly transportation of freight, and the high-pressure compaction area for manufacturing of new products made of biomass, coal ashes, and other solid waste materials. Through its R&D program, FPC develops new technologies/products, and applies for intellectual properties (patents, trademarks and copyrights) on such new technologies/products, which generate long-term income for FPC through selling the IP rights or licensing these technologies to industry.
